Your adventure trek to Everest base camp and Kala Pattar starts from the tiny airfield of Lukla. Then on through Sherpa villages, forests of fir and rhododendron. You will cross high suspension bridges and you will see caravans of Dzopkyos (a yak-cow cross breed). Our trail enters Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa"capital" nestled in a horse shoe bowl, with it's colourful, bustling market with traders from local villages and as far away as Tibet. Above the tree line the scenery is stark but spectacular and the incredible monastery at Tengboche is set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, on one side and Mount Everest on the other. With time for acclimatisation en route, our goal is Everest base camp on the Khumbu glacier and then to climb Kala Pathar (5545m) for breath taking views of Everest and its surrounding peaks.
You will be met and assisted by our local guide and transferred to hotel.
A pre-trek briefing and introduction with guide. A half day sightseeing in Kathmandu valley. O/N in hotel.
Today we begin the ascent to Namche Bazaar - the most prosperous and the largest town in the Khumbu. O/N in lodge.
We take the day off to allow our bodies to adjust to the rarefied atmosphere before ascending to higher altitudes. O/N in lodge.
After our day off we traverse west, enjoying view of Kwangde Ri and the waterfalls. We return back down the valley via Thamo and then take a high trail that by passes Namche and finally drops into Khumjung. O/N in lodge.
The trail this morning descends to the Dudh Khosi. We cross the river at Phunki Thanga. We visit Tengboche, the principal monastery of the Khumbu area. O/N in lodge.
We follow the path down from Tengboche through the rhododendron forest to Deboche. A gradual climb takes us to the village of Lower Pangboche. Then we take a detour right to the hamlet at Dingboche at the start of the Imja Tse valley. O/N in lodge.
Today we encourage you to attempt one of two walks around Dingboche. The shorter option ascends the hill immediately behind Dingboche, to drop steeply down to Periche. The longer option is to trek up the Imja Tse valley towards Island Peak. O/N in lodge.
We climb up to the ridge behind Periche until we reach the tea houses at Dughla.
A long day and an early start. We trek along the rough path along the side of the Khumbu glacier to the tea shacks at Gorak Shep. The route up is straightforward and takes most people between 90 minutes and 2 hours. All the peaks - Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Changtse, Ama Dablam and scores of other lesser peaks can be seen from this wonderful vantage point. O/N in lodge.
Our adventure continues towards Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air, the walk passes through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams, till you reach the base camp. After we go back to Gorak Shep and begin the trek to Lobuje. O/N in lodge.
We descend all morning via Periche to Pangboche, whereupon we stay high on the west bank of the river all the way to the Sherpa village of Phortse. O/N in lodge.
Now we descend through a forest to the Dudh Kosi river. Then we turn south off the main trail to Khunde and Khumjung. The route then leads down the hill to Namche Bazzar. O/N in lodge.
Most people head towards Lukla with a heavy heart. There is something very special about the setting, the villages and the people of the high Khumbu valleys and hills and our memories help us up the deceptively long, final climb into Lukla. Our tea house is well located and offer a good final resting spot.
We take a flight to Kathmandu. O/N in hotel.
Today we spend day in Kathmandu. In the evening we host a farewell dinner.
