Husky expedition to the Arctic Ocean and Nordcap

We have set up an extraordinary, expedition style husky adventure way up into the Arctic Circle. You will mush and care for your own team of six dogs. We push out into the Finnmark Tundra and across mountainous plateaus where the weather rules life, as it is changeable and can be challenging. We will go far off the beaten track and break our own trail as we push north. This trip also has a very special optional extension to finish the journey on Snowmobiles up to Europe’s most Northerly point, Nordcap.

Brief Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1
You will be met at the airport by your guide and Direct Adventures leader and go directly to Karasjok and the Husky Lodge. After dinner there is a briefing regarding the tour, detailing the week to come.

Day 2
Our first day is spent getting kitted out. Working alongside our guide we organise the teams of huskies. After lunch you will learn the basics of caring for your team of dogs and driving the sleds.

Day 3/9
After a hot breakfast we set off, our route heads north northwest through a fascinating landscape that is sparse and windswept. Over the next seven days we chase through beautiful and sometimes challenging terrain. We are completely independent as we travel and stay in our expedition tents. Our route will be adapted to the snow and weather conditions on the way. We stop en route to try ice fishing on the frozen lakes that we pass over. After a full week of living closely with your team of huskies we reach our final destination, a cosy house in Stenbukt, which is located in the farthest northwest coast of Norway.

Day 10
After breakfast we sled to the road where the dogs are picked up and driven back to Karasjok. We transfer you to your Airport.

Optional Extra
Day 10
After breakfast we sled to the road where the dogs are picked up and driven back to Karasjok. We are transferred to our Hotel in Honningsvag. This small city is home to Norway’s king crab fishing fleet. Tonight we stay in our hotel in town.

Day 11
After our hotel breakfast, we make a short transfer to our snowmobiles which we will use to drive out the famous Nordcap Globe, Europe’s most northerly point. That afternoon we will put on a dry suit and try king crab fishing. In the evening we have dinner in the hotel.

Day 12
We will transfer you to the airport where our Direct Adventures trip comes to an end.

Trip Requirements

Visa Requirements
For short stay visits to Norway (up to 90 days) a visa is not required for the United Kingdom, North American, Australian,New Zealand, South African, Schengen or European Countries. We advise you to check with you embassy or consulate for further information and advice if needs be.
Kit List
This tour into Europe's last and only 'true' wilderness requires planning and care as your gear is essential in your full enjoyment and for maximum safety. Temperatures can plummet as weather can change quickly, as it notoriously does. Your gear must combine technicality with simplicity, above all else it must warm. Temperatures on the plateau may see -30C with a high wind chill on top of that. We can provide you with Reindeer hide outer layer to ensure the best protection from the wind and snow. We provide a comprehensive kit list that covers everything that you will need. This is sent out to you with your welcome pack and trip file, when you have made your booking with us.
Rental Options
There are no hidden costs on any of our tours and we do not charge rental for any essential items (this includes the reindeer clothing, we consider this essential). We can rent 5 season sleeping bags if required. We advise you to either rent from us or if you want to buy your own, then do so, as it is a requirement.
Local Customs
The area that we are mushing through is called Finnmark and this region is the traditional true home of Europes last and only indigenous people, who are called Sami. They are an ancient people that have lived in the Europes north; across Norway, Sweden, Finland and into Russia for at least 5000 years. Traditionally they were semi nomadic and followed the Reindeer and even today are responsible for caring and following the huge herds of the Reindeer through the summer months. The area we start our tour is in fact the Sami capital, Karasjok, which is home to Sami museums and the Sami Government. We meet and talk with the sami people and will eat with them as well.
