The Finnmark Arctic Ski tour - 70° North

This guided cross country ski tour will lead you from the Norwegian pine glades of Karasjok to the traditional and remote lodges used by hunters and travellers alike. We travel out into the Arctic tundra as we make our way on this circuitous, classic route into Finnmark. Your luggage is loaded onto a big dogsled so you can ski comfortably. Daily distances are 22-33 km. Accommodation during the ski tour in wilderness cabins. You will try ice fishing and we will visit a Sámi reindeer herder and his family at their winter quarters and their herds.

Brief Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1
You will be met at the airport by your Direct Adventures representative who will take you directly to Karasjok, where dinner awaits. Our guide will give a briefing on the week ahead.

Day 2
After breakfast all our equipment will be loaded on a big dogsled, which will be driven by our guide, with the sled being pulled by about 14 Huskies! We will ski through the day and will arrive later that afternoon at the Gardin mountain cabin.

Day 3
Packed and breakfasted. We head off toward the windswept arctic tundra. Our day is spent enjoying the endless views and the space. We arrive that afternoon at the “Jewel”, the Mollisjok mountain cabin.

Day 4
Our tour continues southwards along the trout and salmon river and we pass two remote Sámi settlements. Away from the river we pass over hills and through wooded glades. Finally we cross a frozen lake to find our cabin, Soussjavre, nestled in the Short pines.

Day 5
Today the area we are skiing through is a very important winter pasture for the roaming reindeer. After a day of undulating skiing we make alarge descent back into the Karasjok valley, we reach a stunning wooden cabin, Baeivasgiedde, tucked away in the wilderness, beautifully situated next to the river and our home for the night.

Day 6
We take the opportunity to rest and visit a Sámi reindeer herder and his family at the winter pasture, there we will join them for a meal along with the other herders. It is a fascinating, once in a life time experience to learn about the fascinating Sámi culture. That night we spend our second night at the Baeivasgiedde.

Day 7
On our last day skiing we follow the river to Beskenjarg, from here our path ends and we are met by our bus who will take us to our next and last Arctic lodge, where a sauna, cool beers and hot supper awaits us.

Day 8
After Breakfast we will transfer you the airport to meet your flight home.

Extension for Finnmarksloppet race Sunday March 13th
Day 8
Today is real highlight as we get to meet the famous Finnmarkslopet. You will have the opportunity to see the twelve dog teams as they check point and rest in Karosjok on their return journey to the finish line 120km away in Alta.

Day 9
After Breakfast we will transfer you the airport to meet your flight home.
