    Local Customs
Nepal is where it all began, from the first british expedition in 1922, to Hillary's successful ascent in 1953, to today; where literally thousands of people from all over the world come to the Kumbu valley, to Annapurna and the Himalayas to share in the incredible Mountains that seperate the northern Tibetan Plateaus from the hot lush southern jungles of India. Home to a massive eight of the worlds highest peaks, Nepal is home to over 29 million people and is predominantly Hindu (80%). The people that have lived in the mountains are mainly Buddhist (10%) and so the stuppas and temples adorn every shoulder and rocky outcrop throughout the Himalayas. Most of Nepal is rural, with its people living simple, subsistant lives. Which is why a trek or a bike tour into the mountains really gives one the cultural experience and feeliing that this is a truly special country.
