Our Grading System

Our Grading System

All our trips are graded to indicate the appropriate level of fitness and expertise needed to participate fully. Study the itinerary in detail to  see the duration, distance covered each day, and area of expertise needed.  This will help you decide if the trip is within your limits. Some biking trips will have support vehicles that allow you to rest at selected drop out points, but this is not possible for all trips.

If in doubt drop us an email to tell us what you’re looking for and we can help you with a trip selection.

1 – Easy Level Designed to allow you to experience a new activity and culture in a relaxed environment. If you’re after a peaceful holiday with a light introductory focus on one or more activities then easy tours are a great option. Routes chosen will be straightforward and suitable for families. Fitness Required: A low level of fitness is required, exercising at least once a week prior to the tour.

2 – Introductory Level You will have up to five or six hours a day at a slow but steady pace, but this does not mean they are easy trips. You will not climb above 4000m, but will need a reasonable level of fitness and good health. These trips are usually a week in duration.

3 – Moderate Level Ideally you will have some previous experience in the activities. Routes chosen will require a reasonable level of fitness and experience on different terrains. Moderate trips are suitable for increasing your abilities and pushing yourself to new limits. Fitness Required: A good level of fitness; you will need to be doing some form of exercise two-three times a week on the build up to this  trip.

4 – Challenging Level Trips are designed for the more experienced participants wanting to push their limits. Routes will include longer climbs and more technical skills but will fall short of masochistic.
Fitness Required: A good level of fitness is required, exercising at least four times a week prior to the tour.

5 – Extreme Level Trips are for those looking to break boundaries. Terrain will be steep and the adrenalin factor will be extreme. Your legs will ache and you’ll sweat buckets, but your efforts will be well and truly rewarded when you reach the top. Options for dropping out will be minimal, so you will need to be in for the duration and extremely fit.
